Default need help...who ports iron heads?

want to get my 1970 iron #64 heads ported to 250-260 cfm and my factory iron intake also ported, heads have recent valve job,new ferrea valves 2.11 /1.77,guide plates ,new studs, etc. ....i know sd performance does them but they are 5 months out and i would like to get them done sooner ,if possible. i prefer to keep the engine stock looking because its a YC code 70 455 , in my restored 70 gto. So i would like more torque...please help...thx keith

You're probably going to be waiting no matter who you go to. Kauffman did a set for me 15 years ago, did a nice job. It was about a 4 month turn around back then. I just had my set done last year by SD, nice job there too. Butler too of course.

I would wait on SD Performance. Their CNC port job is top notch. I've waited a lot longer than 5 months for quality engine work.

Don Johnston from DCI is the guy you're looking for... He even has a head porting special going on.

Not sure if Dave Wilcox still takes on work, he’s top notch. Location is a factor as shipping to and from will eat up some of the budget.

Does Paul Carter port heads? Haven't heard anything about/from Bill Anderson in years.
Jim Robertson is good and worth looking into.
This time of year is usually when shops are the busiest so it might be hard to get anything done quickly

Brian,
Now that you says that about Paul you maybe right.

As far as Bill, it has been a little while since I last talked with him. But if the OP is close to Bill I could call and find out if Bill is interested and has time.

Paul Carter does port heads, but the last time I talked to him they were covered up for at least the next year.

If you're in the Carolinas, Marty Warden knows Pontiacs. He did a set of 670s for me.

Default More Torque?

Think we need to hear more about this project. 70 YC should be making all the low RPM torque street tires can handle. Especially with an 067 cam.

Is there plans for a bigger cam to take advantage of ported heads?

Exactly where in the RPM range are you wanting more torque? If it's more usable torque over a wider range...a cam swap would be more cost effective.

Need more input on intended use and/or goals for this ride

You dont need a "Pontiac" guy to do good head work. Seems kind of silly to list 10 or 15 names if you ask me

I got a great guy here in dfw. Elliotsportworks. Should be able to meet your timeframe. 250-260cfm no issue. He’s done many sets of Pontiac heads

I had SD performance cnc my #64's to mid 250's and JBP do a set of hand ported #62's to mid 250's,,,both ran great. Not sure on the wait time for JBP,,,some good names thrown out there that Im sure would be great without a large wait time.

I'd leave them alone and build a nice street motor with that set up. Keep the cam duration short and the lobe separation wide. I would run a flat mechanical cam, something like the Super Duty #10.. Crower has a sweet heart #60310 I believe. Keep the compression at 9:1 if you plan on putting a lot of street miles on it and having fun with it instead of looking at it in the garage because its too mush of a pain in the a$$ to start once hot or it shakes too much because the cams all wrong..

X2
Just get a good valve job and good valves and the correct cam. Its a 455 and you will burn thru sets of tires no problem.
My iron heads only flow 220 cfm and make plenty of power.

He is doing iron heads. 6 to 8 weeks. 2 months is not bad considering.
