Take a look through the sticky note at the top of the page about what tires will fit on a 1966 car: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=397313 even though it starts off talking about 1966, if I recall correctly there were some sidetracks into earlier cars.

1961-1962 cars have unusually tight fender wells, what may work on later cars won't necessarily fit on them.

A set of 8.20x15 Atlas Bucron tires would do nicely and are pretty sticky.
Oooooops! They quit making them in the mid 60s. https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MUEXGngR6...00/207azk9.jpg

I had 9x29R15 Hoosier's mounted on 15x7. Sorry I don't remember the wheel spacing dimensions. I did have to roll the fender lip. You can get the tires section width online and there are online sites that tell how to figure backspacing needed. If using a steel wheel no problem to customize it.
