Default Local motor sports are opening this Friday

My buddy at work said he’s racing this Friday, roundy-round dirt track racing. I checked Northeast Dragway’s website, and they are having a TNT Friday. Both venues are about a half hour from home for me. I hope other states are starting to do the same. We all hunkered down and flattened the curve, it’s time to move forward with care. Too bad the Tripower Nats are CX’ed. What other states are starting to move forward? Isn’t Florida starting to open up?

One dirt track here has had an invitational sprint car show with no spectators, they plan on opening with spectators on July 20th. One other dirt track about 30 minutes from Norwalk is going to have their open this Friday without spectators. 3 classes of cars, up to 10 people able to come in with each race car, $32 per person paid in advance, with names of the crew also listed in advance, ID required, masks required, 6 feet social distancing required.

Tony Stewart's Eldora speedway is planning on running "The Dream" premier event late model race this weekend without spectators.

The Ohio Sprint Car Speedweek, (8 consecutive nights at 8 different tracks) was originally scheduled to be June 19-27, is now moved to July 3-11. They still have no idea if Ohio is going to allow spectators by that time, they are hoping that spectator events will reopen on July 1. Talk was also at 25% capacity with no congregating in groups larger than 10 people, masks required, probably no food vendors at any events. All non spectator races already run to this point have had no food vendors so far, although you can go to Mickey D's, or BK in Ohio and eat in the dining rooms with social distancing.............

So far all the non spectator dirt track races have been televised on pay per view. I believe that this is the only way that the races are able to take place. The pay per view companies are paying the tracks enough to pay the purses for the teams. So far the purses have been the same as they would have been with spectators in the stands, typical payout for a regular weekly show in just shy of $20,000.

Made it to the 1/8th on a 1/4 mile pass & the back end got loose and had to let off. Turns out i blew a heater core line at the head & got it capped off and refilled w water. Then it wouldn't start. No tools other than a jack so I ended up getting towed home. Turns out the distributor got wet. Total failure after waiting 3 months to reopen LOL what a kick in the nuts. Need a new heater core before I go back.

Back in the day I used copper but today you should be able to use PVC. All you need is 2 90's and 3 short lengths of tube and you can make a heater core bypass and be out next weekend.

Stan I was wondering if I could run hose from the small outlet on the timing cover to the nipple on the back of the head? I discovered the leak the day before it blew at the track and plugged off the timing cover with a pipe plug and had a rubber cap on the head outlet. Pretty sure we used that cap on the dyno and it worked fine on the street the night before

,You can definitely loop the hose from the timing cover to the rear of the head, the only problem is you have 1/8 inch ID difference (3/4" ID on the timing cover hose, 5/8" ID on the head fitting) between the 2 fittings. Putting a stout hose clamp on the head fitting will still pull the hose down to the smaller 5/8" nipple and seal it.

My dirt track cars ran that way for years without leaking, never had one pop off during any racing. Have also used that tactic when the small hose from the heater core, or the core itself started leaking on the road, to get home and make a more permanent repair.

FWIW, those rubber plugs are usually made from chicom crap rubber, and may last 6 months if you're lucky. The ones found in the HELP section at auto parts stores tend to weather check very rapidly, then fail.

I heard from another person, that competes in mud racing events, (he drives modified Jeep Cherokees). He said that the little dirt track that opened on the 6th ran into some trouble. I guess they didn’t follow some guidelines appropriately and someone turned them in. They got shut down again. The mud racing is scheduled to take place 7-11-2020. The circle track is supposed to reopen soon. The local drag strip has been running Friday test n tunes.
