Crower makes the shorter polylocks and they are available through Summit.

What I've found is things will fit when first put together but after the gaskets shrink you may find interference a year later when the valve cover bolts are tightened back up. I'd allow for at least an additional 1/8" clearance when first putting things together. I'm running HS 1.65's and .620" lift with stock chrome valve covers and ended up using two thick gaskets since one new gasket wouldn't quite have been enough after shrinkage.

Thanks for all of you guys help.

Concerning the A/C, I'm aware I'll have to make some fabrication mods on the upper rear bracket that support the rear of the compressor (bolts to the intake and barely clears the stock valve covers before being raised).
Did you find that raising the valve covers impacted the normal location of the compressor as well?

You might want to find another rear bracket and grind it to clear the slightly raised valve cover, or if possible use a small spacer and a longer bolt where it attaches to the intake manifold.

For those of you having success clearing full roller rockers with polylocks on the stock valve cover - are you using the 67+ valve covers like this?

I have 66 valve covers and they definitely don't clear - even with the thick gasket. Chrome is pitted so I was thinking of getting new ones anyway, but I'd prefer to get something that clears better. The 67+ look like they would have more clearance, but it's hard to tell from pics. This is what I have:

Hoping to keep my A/C, but it sounds like I should be prepared to modify the bracket.

I guess it depends on your choice of rockers. The Crower Enduro stainless roller rockers with polylocks fit under my 1964 GTO chrome covers using thicker gaskets. I have factory A/C to contend with as well.

The peak of the '66 valve cover is about the same as '67 and later, and it is the sides of the valve cover roof that drops down on the early covers. Later covers are definitely easier but early can be used with a few tweaks - you just have about a 1/4" less at the edge of the roof.

Use the Crower stainless rockers like Bart said along with the 3/8" cork gasket from Butler, and you might also want to go to the short polylocks offered by Crower. Not a bad idea to put them on for a little more clearance. Sometimes things clear with new gaskets but as the gaskets age and shrink you might find some contact in six months or longer. Using the stainless rockers, thicker gasket, and short polylocks gives some additional room for shrinkage.
