How to get my Tri-power Intake off??? Need Help
Need some help.
I am in the process of cleaning up my tri-power on the 66. Looking at the Intake I need to remove it and clean it up also. Questions: Unlike the picture, I have took out all bolts that are securing the intake to block. What is the best way to get it off? It is really stuck. Second, Removing the Thermogauge unit. What part part do I unscrew? Top or bottom? Thanks, FB66 |

Unscrew the top part of the thermo gauge, leave the base in the intake, if you can.
On the intake, make sure you have the front long bolt that pulls the intake to water pump remove or loosened enough to get the intake off. Preferably I would remove that bolt be fore removing intake. You may have to wedge a big flat head screwdriver between intake and head and pry, but try not to gauge. Once you get the intake to start releasing from the head, it will pull off rather easily. Mark

I took out all the bolts, even the one to water pump. I will try to borrow a gasket scrapper and try and pry it off.
Where should I try and pry 1st? FB66 |

|
A thin screwdriver blade applied low to the back of the manifold down low between manifold and head in the gasket area works well. Main reason for picking that spot is that even a thin wedge might leave marks and that low rear spot is pretty well hidden. A second screwdriver on the opposite side and alternating taps with a hammer on the screwdrivers will wedge it free. Once started it will basically peel up from back to front. Units that were dropped in place allowing the gasket to work are easy while others that were gooped up with sealant along their length can be a pain.

If all else fails a large pry bar under the front of the intake manifold and over the top of the timing cover. Push down HARD.
