Fel Pro 8518PT head gasket
Does the 8518 PT need to be re-torqued after run in? Some say yes and some say no. Thanks for answering, Mike

The 'PT' at the end of the part number indicate 'Perma Torque'
FelPro has been marketing these since (at least) the late 1970s.
The main selling point, at least in the beginning, was that you didn't have to re-torque them. And the 'Print O Seal' little silicone beads around water jackets and everything. We've used them for thirty years and never had any issues. But, with that said, we ALWAYS re-torque them. Good luck! |

You don't have to, but it never hurts to do such , but on the other side of the coin it's impossible to get a accurate Torque reading with any type of torque whench when it's moved less then 1/4" as is the norm when retorquing head bolts.
By far the basics are more important, that being that all the bolts need to beable to be threaded in by hand and that on final install the threads are very lightly lubed ( no dripping with oil bolts! ) with 30w oil and so should the bolt head contact pad on the head, as should both sides of any head bolt washers used. And speaking of washers if used the head bolts need to protrude from the bottom side of the head by 3/4" to get the needed tread ingaugement taking place.
