Default Englishtown closing?!?

I've seen a story from Bangshift.com popping up allover the internet tonight that says Englishtown will cease drag racing operations for 2018. I sure hope the story is wrong!

I haven't seen any other stories other than the one linked above, so until I see other confirmation, I'm skeptical.
There have been many stories of E-towns demise over the last 15, or so, years as more housing developments creep ever closer to the track.

It’s weird that RP is NOT on NHRA’s national event schedule right now. Sucks.
Atco is my personal favorite to race at in Jersey cause it’s best to the bracket racers but losing RP SUCKS BIG TIME. I always thought PC Richard was gonna buy it from the Napp’s and keep it rolling. Sad day if it turns out true.

Now Dragzine is reporting the story, as well.

Racewayparks website has a press release link on it. Looks like currently no 1/8 or 1/4 mile racing other events like motocross, drifting, and car shows will continue. But I also received a text saying Copart bought the property and is going to use it as a storage area for their auction cars.

Englishtown was the first track I raced at. I raced there for years after that. Then I took 12 years off to build my business and also completely rebuild my car. I changed literally everything on the car. The first time back at the track, of course I go there for a Sunday test and tune event. I roll in at 11 am and pay my 50 bucks for 3 passes and they are advertised to be open for racing until 4:30. At 11:30 a track employee comes by and says hurry up, we are closing asap. There were at least 50 cars there, the Jr track was running the season finals, airport open, mx track open, and drifting track open. Now I have to hot lap a new car and rusty driver? The reason was there wasn't a big enough turnout for them to keep their staff there supposedly. Then I remembered back that the staff was never really pleasant and often rude, at least that's how they seemed to me. I started going to Atco after that and never went back. A much better attitude towards the customer in my opinion. I really hate to see them close, but I don't think they cared about the average racer.

https://www.nhra.com/news/2018/nhra-...ummernationals From NHRA site. What a shame. This had to be Murphys doing. One day as governor.

Here's the official press release right from their website.

http://www.etownraceway.com/mydocume...estructure.pdf

Very sad but, haven't raced there in 5 years due to they really didn't care much for us racers. Moved over to Atco and love racing there.
However, it is sad another track closes its drag racing program.

FWIW.... joe

Jungle Jim just rolled over in his coffin. Only good side is additional income for other tracks should help them stay healthy. I will miss Friday qualifying for the summernat's most.

Really sucks for me.
No more getting home from work at 5 and being at the track by 5:15 for a little stress release and running the Wednesday night gamblers race.
And my wife lost her job in the timing tower.
Guess it's all about the dollar attributed to the some times low turnout maybe due to the hefty noise restrictions. who knows the real reason.
If it wasn't for the imports, that probably brought in the most drag race money it may have happened sooner.
Just like all our Pontiac events, if you don't support, they go away.

I can't believe it finally happened. In the back of my mind I always knew this day would come.
I guess my racing season is over before it even began. Atco is too far and costly for me to go to all the time. They also run points on Saturdays which is no good for me since I work Saturdays. Island I will never race at again. My one and only time there was not a pleasant one. I think I may just sell the Firebird. Or I need to move.
