Default Door base shield protectors

I've seen variations of these on 2-3 unrestored cars, note even the sample car photos are different to the flaps being sold. I have even saved pics of used flaps removed from a Firebird. Does anyone know if these were an aftermarket thing for sagging doors or an added level of water shield?

On another group they were suggested they were a Camaro feature on some plush models that also had the Z87 extra accoustic and deluxe interior seals and the cowl - fender seals that were not a Firebird feature, but still stamped for them.

ive never seen them on firebirds i have owned or seen in person. also never heard them discussed on any forums as a factory part. my guess is aftermarket or dealer installed & not too common if that.
