Original 1977 water pump.
I'm looking for an original water pump for my 1977 Trans Am 400 engine. Does anyone know if they still exist and where I can buy one.

Are you looking for a new original? You would have to find someone with an NOS pump, and even then, hard to say how good the seal would be after all these years. Your best bet is to find a used one with a date code in the range for your car and have it rebuilt.

Thanks for your response. I agree fully. Any thoughts on where to find one?

Most of the service replacement "296" casting water pumps, have the abbreviated fin 265-301 impeller. Many also have a Julian date on thepump. as was used on the last 2 model year pumps. Such NOS pump's seals are typically dried out & are not something ready to bolt on & go.
For '77-79 Pontiac 400 engines, typically rebuild the the "301" impeller 296 cores with the correct larger finned cast impeller out of earlier 296 casting pumps. Only if going back on a Turbo 301 car or on a 400 or 455 that has been hard blocked up to the bottom of the freeze plugs, will I select the abbreviated cast impeller. What body build date was your '77 Bird built, Yellow Bird? Should be able to take care of your need.
