I tried unsuccessfully to find a custom-bending service for stainless steel tailpipes. Does anybody here know of such a service? There wouldn't be any "catalog" pattern for them, since duals weren't available on '59 GMC trucks, but I could carefully transport the existing rusty pair to a shop to use as patterns, if only I knew where! The local rod shop said they cut/weld/grind/polish separate pieces to create custom S.S. pipes- but I'm not a welder, so that would be a very cumbersome approach (read 'expensive'). Thanks for reading this.

There is a company called Stainless Works. They would have them if anybody does, but be carefull, I don't think they are mandrel bent. As Pittsburgh64 mentioned, aluminized will last the life of a well kept classic. If you are going for looks, then consider a pair of aluminum polished ceramic coated tails. You could temporarily fabricate or install tails and then send them out to any number of ceramic coaters.
