Default HOW DOES THIS GET ORDERED

not sure if this car has been discussed on here before, but how do you go about ordering a column shift manual trans??? I know in the firebird line if you order automatic and don't check off the console you get a column shift, but was a 3 speed manual trans the basic no option one and didn't it always come on the floor????

Luxury Lemans for sure. with 72 Lemans grills. Nice car but wrong in so many ways and I am not a purist. Wonder what it will sell for

In '71 & 72, that's how it was on a 350 2bbl Pontiac A-body. You know Gary, if GT-37 or LeMans GT option had been ordered, the HD Muncie 3apd w floor mounted Hurst shifter would have been installed. Years ago, I parted on a 3spd on the tree Lux LeMans in MN, it had a Saginaw in it.

It was the base model standard equipment, if you didn't order an optional transmission configuration that's what you got. That year there was the standard three speed manual, a heavy duty 3 speed manual (with floor shift), a four speed manual, or a two or three speed automatic. See this page from the 1972 factory brochure: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/stati...ontiac-32.html

Best thing to improve the appearance on a 72 Lux LeMans is strip off all the HIDEOUS stainless trim & skirts & install '71 or 72 LeMans grilles.

I didn't realize you got it on the column. I thought it would have been a floor shift.

Depending on the year, there was an option to put the 3-speed on the floor if the standard column location was not desired. Off the top of my head, it was M12 vs M13 but I could be totally wrong.
