Was the original big car shift lever also round like the A body shifter in your picture above?

Not that it has anything to do with this discussion, but this is a picture of the aftermarket Hurst I put in my '61 (I still have the original Inland shifter, but it's stored away in a box out in the garage.)

Stuart, I believe the shifter arm is round like the A/F-bodies.

Here are the P/N's for the shifter assembly, arm, rods, and levers underlined in red that we are looking for. The 67/68 4-speed shifters and hardware are completely interchangeable except for the shifter assembly (67 - 9786898 vs. 68 - 97900770). Not sure what the differences would be...? Interesting there is only one shifter arm for both buckets with and w/o console and bench seat...9787946. The 1/2 and 3/4 levers are the same p/n.

Group 4.045 / Lever / on Transmission Shifter / 1st & 2nd / 3rd & 4th / 9778644
Group 4.045 / Lever / on Transmission Shifter / Reverse / 9778645

Dan made more progress this week with lots of small stuff that is hard to see, or hidden. Interior - steering column, pedals, e-brake, & kick panels; Engine compartment - clutch & throttle linkages, and more firewall details.

The wrong one. We are currently looking for a correct 67/68 B-Body shifter handle. According to the parts and assembly manuals, there was only one style for all seats with, or without console.

Awesome car. It's very lucky to have acquired Dan as its owner

I have one (allegedly). Are you looking for a part #? I will be using it for my GP changeover, unless I use the RG shifter instead. Too far away from that decision to let it got yet.

mr67gp, Let me know if you decide to part with it. We are looking for the shifter handle primarily, but are interested in all the 67/68 4-spd hardware...rods, levers, shifter body, & handle.

Thanks, Dennis

Default Need a Clean Rust Free 68 Hood

I thought we'd start here with putting out the word that we are looking for a nice straight, clean and rust free '68 hood for the Catalina. The original one is straight, but has some rust through along the back edge bottom brace structure. It can be repaired with new metal welded in, but we wanted to at least see if there is a good hood needing a cool car to go on. Thanks!

I'm also putting an ad in the classifieds too.

Dan made some more progress with a lot of little things on and around the engine and firewall. The pedals are attached and at their proper installed positions. Dan's getting a bunch of factory breather tubes black phos plated and the front end sheet metal is ready for paint. Dan also decided to reupholster the front and rear seats with the original fabric and vinyl from SMS, since the original upholstery just wasn't quite nice enough to match the rest of the car...you know how that goes. Good steady progress with all the other work he has got going.

Core support assembled and ready for installation. The original 4-core heavy duty radiator is being cleaned and painted next...looks like it was recored not long before the Cat was retired from the street...very clean inside.

Dan got more little stuff done in and around the engine, as well as the polished original 3-piece rear wheel well moldings.

1_Wild_Cat - Thanks! We know some folks appreciate seeing what it takes to restore a non-mainstream Pontiac, and this one in particular deserves it. We are happy to share what we know, as well as the progress and problems we encounter along the way. These big boys are definitely more challenging to find suitable parts for when you need them.

Here is another little hiccup...Dan has to relocate half the plastic attachment pins in the reproduction door weather-stripping...ridiculous! But, that's what you have to do. We are sure they are patterned for the Chevy variant and the other GM division brothers have to make do and 'fix' the Chevy made junk.

The doors are done (weather-stripping fixed and attached) and you can just see the glove box door is installed. The dash pad, A-pillar covers, and speaker cover get installed tomorrow.
