Default Pypes Street Pro vs Race Pro - comparison same car, 2 videos

Hi,

I just switched from the Street Pro muffleres to the Race Pro muffleres.
Everything the same except the mufflers, so you can hear the difference and get a little help to decide

1. Street Pro mufflers - similar sound to Flowmaster 40

https://youtube.com/shorts/ln0biiC776Q

2. Race Pro mufflers - similar sound to most straight through mufflers

https://youtube.com/shorts/PMXlY4OTbTw

I like both sounds, but the Race Pros are noticable quieter and deeper, which I prefer. Both are not quiet in my opinion, but the Street Pros are a lot more noticeable, especially at idle.

Any questions.... please ask

I like the Race Pros, also. Sounds like a huge difference and this is fantastic documentation. Beautiful car, also.

Now you know why PYPES tells you right there on their website that the Race Pro mufflers are quieter than the Street Pro mufflers.

They weren’t kidding.

street pros are a chambered muffler like the slow-masters... race prose are a perforated straight through pipe with packing material in the case, like dynomax ultraflo's.

it's hard to tell the noise level, just because one muffler is quieter... the street pro's sound more old school, but are a bit too loud for me... the race pro's are loud as well, but have a more modern sound and will not draw as much attention at idle, which I prefer... I think for many the race pro's are too loud as well

I've switched back and forth between Race and Street Pro's on a couple different cars when experimenting. The Race Pro is definitely quieter than Street Pro's, despite what their names might insinuate.

The problem with both of those mufflers if you're looking for something quiet, is that they are short 14" mufflers so they are only going to muffle sound so much. Pypes doesn't make them any larger unfortunately.

That's why most people go for the Dynomax as they are available in 14" and 20" so if you're looking for something with a little more noise control, obviously the 20" will do a better job at that.

These days I typically always go for a Dynomax muffler, either turbo or welded case depending on application.

No problem, there are 18" Race Pro mufflers as well:

Looks like pypes now has a "turbo pro" muffler too, same basic design as the super turbo from dynomax, should be the quietest of all their mufflers.

18 is getting better. Must be a new addition since I last dealt with pypes. Looks like they are starting to follow dynomax's lead. Likely more people experienced what I pointed out and they are actually doing something about it. Good on them.

Help me with this: "Not recommended on lower horsepower vehicles as low end torque may suffer."

Probably above my pay grade, but are they saying a highly restricted stock exhaust system will make my lo-po 350 happier?

At some point I need to replace the obnoxious glass packs with something way quieter so these sounded like a good option.... until the fine print caught my attention.

And "Think of these mufflers as large inhalers for your engine". Huh?

Mike

I don't know why that kind of literature is still found, it's the old "backpressure" wives tail again
