I just spoke with Gary Harrison and I will speak with the wife and probably have him rebuild it. At least have him pull the motor and diagnose what's going on in the bottom end and go from there.
Here are a couple more pics. It's kind of a unique car. I should add that since these pics were taken i've had the heads rebuilt, a Sniper 2 with Hyperspark Distro and the in tank Fuel Pump put on, as well as a higher capacity alternator. I also put in the correct 400/AC car filler panels. As you can see, someone put a ton of time and effort into this car, so its hard for me to understand why they cut corners on the motor. The rocker arm studs were literally able to be loosened by hand! |

Looks like a 70s motor from the brackets and PS pump setup. Is this a drum brake car? Looks like a drum brake MC. It's interesting to see AC on a convertible too.
Engine looks nice. There are other things that could cause a knocking sound. |

Originally a drum brake car. It has Aerospace Components disk brakes on the front and the stock drums on the rear, at this point. The AC is vintage air and works great, but the heat has never worked. I know there is a valve that if installed backwards, can cause the issue, so could be an easy fix.

If you had considered a Vortech 350, why not consider a Pontiac 350? It looks identical to your 400, and could perform admirably with little effort.
In your state... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...9930465652962/ In my experience, the 350's haven't been flogged as hard as the 400/455 motors, especially if you find one in 2bbl trim where it was pulled in favor of bigger cubes and left in the corner of the garage for 20+ years. Just a thought.
