1963 Grand Prix windshield wipers
Looking to replace my ugly black 15” wipers with something more original looking. The car has a 2 speed wiper motor with wipers
that meet in the middle. The 15’s just look too short. Is 15” the correct length? Thx, Bill

I just did a little video on my 62 showing replacing the blades with OER refills.
Interestingly. Mine were also 15s. I don’t know that the wiper arms are original, but they are at the least quite old TRICOs. Rock Auto lists both a 15 and 18 and says says cars with opposing systems. Which I think mine has as both wipers face each other should get the 18th. BUT both my driver 62 wagon and my parts car have the same wiper setup and both had 15” blades. So I don’t know. I was a bit confused by it too. You can buy new originalish looking TRICO arms. I opted not to and save the money.

Thanks for the reply. Watched your video and I have the “eyesore”
Wipers. Maybe hit some junkyards this spring and find some original stainless ones, polish them up and put in some refills. Great video by the way. I imagine most GM’s from that era are the same

Just walked out and measured mine.
They are 18" and I would guess they are original. K

Keith that makes me wonder if my 62 should have 18s as well on the opposed blades.
Its a conundrum, I would tend to trust the parts that were on not one but two 1962 Catalinas I own over what Rock Auto says, but the pattern the 15 inch blades leave do look a little short. THe fact that your 63 has 18s on the same style opposed wiper system makes me think the 18s would be correct. https://www.amazon.com/Trico-33-183-.../dp/B000CRMNJC Here is a link to Trico Classic 18s. Reviews are middling. Some say the connector is plastic and not metal as it appears in the picture. Others say they are great. I have more important things to spend money on at the moment, but if someone tries them let us know how they are. Might also be worth seeing if Ames has something in their Catalog. Summit makes a direct fit classic blade too that's fairly reasonably priced but they don't make an 18.

Thank you, Keith for including that picture. The 18” certainly looks more appropriate. I’ll be looking for some 18’ s . Anyone having an extra pair, I’d be a buyer.. Bill Meyer

Thank you for the lead. I did buy those, but there were 2 pairs listed, so there is a pair left for you!

Just to provide some affirmation, 18's are correct. These provide proper overlap, no ugly "gap" on the windshield while running, and come up far enough to wipe most of the viewing area.
I generally use Anco wipers, but if you can get Tricos, that's a plus. Also, older blades should be fine if they have been kept in their boxes and not exposed to UV. I got some on eBay which were probably circa 1970 or so, and they're great. Glad you guys could find some on eBay.

Thanks for the info guys, but like Colombo, I have just one more question.
When the wipers park, which one lands on top? I went to a car show yesterday and saw them both ways. Thoughts? Thx, Bill

Mine are as shown in the photos. LH on top.
There's enough slop for them to be either way but 18 out of 20 photos of mine show LH on top. K
