Default '70 fender question....

the front lower section of the fender...there are two bolt holes. Does the clip go on the fender, such that the bolt can come in from the topside of the inner wheelwell, pass through the radiator support and then thread into the clip? In other words, all thre pieces, the wheel well, the rad support and the fender get bolted in the same location with the clip on the fender at the bottom, right?

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.

I do know there are some small stamped steel filler plates that close off the gap between the inner fenderwell, the bottom of the fender, and the core support.

Are you missing the small plate? I think it was only used on 70-73.

If they're the ones I'm thinking of, the two bolts come up from the bottom. The front one goes up through the fender directly into the radiator support. The rear one goes up through the fender, through an additional piece of shielding, then through the fender well and into the radiator support.

Default Firebird fender close-outs

I have found that 70 inner fender and close-outs use four bolts and 71-73 use two bolts for mounting

heres the factory nut used on the radiator support(I have the bolts, just opted for new ones), notice the indent in the nut which sits inide the subframe hole as a locator, keeps that part in place, as well as the "tab" on the nut to keep it from spinning durring assembly. the only adjustment is the slot in the support where the bushing is, for side to side movement.
also here is a pic of the inner fender well drop downs, these are 1971, the rad support is 1970 (no place for the canister shelf), my remote trans filter is there for the 2004R. The inner fender attaches with 2 bolts on the top of drop downs, as puics show, and other shows tops of the bottom 2 screws.

that second picture of the last post shows what I believe is the area. It appears in that pic that the bolt comes from the outside lower area of the fender, goes though it, through the radiator support then up through the inner wheel well flange , which is where the clip is. Does that sound right? I was just unclear and wanted to be correct about the way the bolts were facing.

That is correct, my fenders are not in that pic but the bolt does come up through and the clip is on the drop down
