These are early to mid 70's units. Later Delco pushed the "Pleasurier" shocks on all GM cars as replacements. You do not see these often. They are single valve action like the spirals.

These are GM parts replacements that were available in the '70's. The earlier ones were gold

They are all over Ebay for all different makes and models.

I can tell you what they were thinking at Trotter Pontiac in Chattanooga in 1979 when I needed shocks for my '71....$102 for 2ea. HD Delco Front Shocks installed. They were big, they were nice, they worked real good and they were white. That trip broke me forever from not asking how much up front for the rest of my life. Back then, decent after market shocks were about $25 a pair, didn't dream 1 shock + tax & labor was $50 each. That hurt. Luckily, I had $105 on me.

I agree early replacements.
Did you look for an assembly date code? Should be right around the corner from the part number. Should read something like 116 71 or if late 1970 made, 309 70.

Am I missing something? Those don't look like second generation Firebird shocks. Every F-body I've seen has a stud at the bottom to mount the shock.

Good eye. I missed the obvious. Perhaps his Firebird had some aftermarket traction bars which used the other design shock mount. I've seen that before. That way the bar manufacturers could offer one part number for both 1st Gen. and 2nd Gen. F bodies as well as X bodies.

Looks like those got mixed up with 71 Firebird parts. Online says GTO.
Sorry for mix up.
Still something you don't see often.
