Default LS1 rear main problem???

So I have an LS1 in my 2003 Holden Caprice. 5.7litre. About 135K miles up
The rear main was leaking and it was getting a bit worse so I put it in to have it repaired. The shop who did it has done good work for me in the past so I was happy to get them to do it.
Got it back and within a few days it was leaking real bad. Took it back and they didn't make much fuss and did it again. And now a week later its leaking just as badly.
The shop is now not so happy and are claiming these engines are highly prone to oil leaks and are not sure they can cure it. They say it's NOT leaking from the sump which is apparently another failure point.
I have been looking up the problem on the net and indeed it seems to be common. But I'm wondering why and how best to solve it.
Anyone got some thoughts about this???

Are they replacing just the crank seal or both the crank and rear cover seal?

LS's usually seal up pretty good first time.

Both times the full crank & cover seal. I know they specifically checked for any wear groove in the crank (well so they told me....). And I did see the packing of the second cover. It was genuine GM. Not sure about the first one but they told me it was genuine and they were claiming it on the supplier.

It's going back on Monday and I hope they get it right this time but the fact it's had two failures worries me. AND the shop fitting it I'm sure. These guys are old school. Not young bucks looking for short cuts.

I was wondering if there might be any after market covers which had been developed to address a persistent leak problem???

Yes there is cheap **** seals to be mindful of. Don't use anything other than genuine seals on an LS.

Check the oring on the cam sensor too, plus the valve covers (unlikely to be this) because it may be up top running down the back.
