63 super duty wheel size?
63 super duty wheel size? Hello fellow tempest fans. I’m trying to figure out what back wheel is on the back of the stand long super duty “eBay tempest”. I am trying to find any information from the Internet and it’s very Limited to what is on the car or what the guys would do when they converted to the rear 9.3 axle. Unfortunately I’m not going with the 9.3 I will be using a 9 inch and I have options for lug bolt pattern. I’m not sure if they used 5/ 4.75 like the small GM also the rim width and backspacing. Or even if somebody has a link to a pair of wheels for sale I would greatly appreciate anybody’s help thank you very much.

I'm filing all this away for when/if I do this to my '63. I'd love to see pictures of the differential installations that any of you would care to share. Thank you!

TA-69. Thank you for the reply. did you run the GM bolt pattern 5X5 or 5x4.75? Or Ford bolt pattern which is smaller. the Ford used 5 on 4.5? I like the way that we all looks I have to call Mosher they want to know where to drill the axles or if you have a part number? I would like to check the backspacing. Thank you again and yes you’re car looks awesome. Sorry if I’m being a pain in the....

I originally used a 12 bolt out of an “A” body and then decided I didn’t like the look of it. I decided to go with a 9 inch because 9.3 is very difficult to select gears / carriers. we all know the 9 inches a little more versatile for parts I have a 9.3 in my 62 and I’ve done extensive work to it to make it stronger. The 63 has a triangulated four bar.

I used the tanks Inc. “A” body fuel tank. I had to make strap brackets under the trunk Now it has the same style for the A body it fits really good between the frame rails. The triangulated four bars are all double adjustable HAIM joints ends from TRZ. I used The “G” body arms because Those are little shorter and they fit really nice. Yes I did narrowed it probably 2 inches. I could go back in my history and see what the actual measurements are. If I were to do this all over again I think I also would go leafspring or maybe even Truck arm. I ordered the 62 series wheel with the 4 1/4 backspacing. BIG thank you for info...I also had to 12 Bolt A Body rear as for reason why I went with the triangulated four bar.

Here are the measurements if you want to compare thank you your 12bolt. I took all my measurements from the mounting flange where the backing plate bolts up to the differential just about underneath the wheel cylinders. I also cut the wheel wells and move them in probably about 1/2-3/4” inch up to the frame rail sort of the way the super duties got their modifications to fit the tire. Anybody interested in buying a 12 bolt out of a Chevelle with 4:10 cut down maybe 2”? |
