I reckin it's sorta like when someone asks about building a 350. It CAN be done. But, there are very good reasons to build something else, instead.
I once had the opportunity to buy a nice 4th gen roller, for a 455 bracket car build. After lookin at the car, inside & out, I really liked the idea, UNTIL I popped the hood. After lookin at the engine compartment & picturing trying to install & work on a Pontiac engine in that tiny space instantly turned me off from the idea. I immediately said " Thanks, but no Thanks " Out of curiosity, I went online to see how others pulled & installed engines in a 4th gen. Most info seems to indicate that the best way is to raise the body on a lift & lower the entire front subframe, with engine attached. There may be a better way. I don't know. But, just lookin under the hood, it appeared to me as tho I wouldn't even be able to reach past the strut towers to change plugs, much less get to header bolts. I know that the Butlers did a 4th Gen Pontiac engine build, and several guys have built Pontiac powered 4th gen Super Stock cars. But, I don't personally know any regular Pontiac street guys who have done it. Lots of 3rd gens have been built, but not too many 4th gens, that I have heard of. And there are very good reasons for that. But hey, if you wanna try it, I think it would make a great build thread. And, if you are successful, it might encourage others to try it. https://butlerperformance.com/g-2124...iac-power.html https://butlerperformance.com/g-2125...-trans-am.html https://www.lsxmag.com/tech-stories/...f-your-f-body/ https://www.ls1.com/forums/f7/removi...-f-body-78184/ Last edited by ponyakr; 08-11-2018 at 07:16 AM. |
