Default Valve Cover Bolts

After doing some research, it would seem that valve cover bolts used from '64-'68 were black (phosphate, zinc or cadmium?) where as '69+ were silver zinc or cadmium.

Going through my fastener stash from various projects & parts cars over the years, I've come up with a few variations. Would be curious to see pix of original restored or survivor assembly line bolts.

My ‘65 has 8 letter “D” flange head bolts.

My ‘66 has 6 letter “E” and 2 letter “L” bolts.

Maybe whatever was in the bolt bin on the assembly line that day.

Chris.

My early '67 GTO has all "W" bolts, just like your far-right pic.

Have used Birchwood Casey cold blue for bolt restoration. It's a gun blue, available at gun shops, and won't peel or chip or come off like some paints and coatings. It looks just right, too. YMMV.....

My early Feb. Pontiac plant built 67 uses the "D" marked flange bolt, 8 of them. The bolt head is not recessed like in the previous pics, but flat across the top (other than the raised "D") with no edge around the hex.
