Yeah 3 grand at 70 is pretty bad but an overdrive is out of the question. I don't plan on driving this thing 3,000 miles or even 300 miles. MAybe but not regularly. Maybe I will just put the 3.23s in my '59 and save the 3.42s for the '62. The '59 is gunna be my cruiser anyway

Guys.. he's gonna run a 4 spd manual at the track...with a 27-28" tire hooking , he must have some gear .. If it was staying Automatic , I would always keep the 3.23's ...3.42's would be the minimum gear when drag racing with a stick(26" tires).. unless he ends of with an aftermarket lower geared unit.. Rob would probably only drive from San Marcos to Alamo Dragway or Temple/Academy tracks ? Rob..?

I wanted to run the Hurst Racing tire Pie crust cheater slicks with the 1" whitewall. They would look period correct and I just love they look.

The closest track I have is San Antonio Raceway which is probably a 40 minute drive...all highway. Lots of people drive cars with 4.10s and 28" tires down the highway. My car won't be daily driven so I think 3.42s or even 3.64s would be OK. My goal is to be fast off the line, I'm not looking for gas mileage or top speed.

I'm pretty set on going with a Muncie from Autogear which is M22 based but has the low first gear like the M20s have but it's stronger than a stock M22. I think it's 2.52 instead of the 2.2 first gear

Thumbs up

Regarding the 'track' car, I agree with Larry.

Rob, I have a NEW set of 3.64:1 ring n' pinion gears for your track car available...I could be persuaded to trade you for the 3.42s if interested.

I'll hold the Cat hostage until you trade me the 3.42s for the 3.64s. haha

I'm willing to make that trade if you are. Then I'll just settle with the 3.23s for my '59. If you want I can take pictures and if we figure it out before Thursday I can leave the 3.42s with Larry and when you get your Cat you can just drop off the 3.64s.

And y'all asked for it. Here is my '62 GP with (*gasp*) Poverty caps! I think it improved the looks by 50000%

I also got the motor running and the car does move under it's own power. I forgot how easy it is to steer those old power steering boats! haha Since it's missing a freeze plug I only drove it about 30 yards around my garage. It's gunna be a sweet ride when it's finished.

I also dropped the motor off with Pontiac Larry so he can work his magic. I'm excited and I think he is too!
