Default 65 2+2 vert what's it worth?

Hi, I'm new to this site and wasn't sure where to post. A friend of mine might be selling his 65 2+2 and wants to know what It's worth in todays economy. He's in the hospital and I don't think he will ever be able to drive this car again or get to go home for that matter. like the title says It's a 65 2+2 vert 421 HO tri power 4 speed, 8 lug wheels, numbers matching. The car is blue, white top and interior. The top is new, It was done in the last year or two. New carpet last year. It's a nice driver not a show car. He bought the car about 6 years ago from someone in NY. Heads and cam are not the ones that came with the motor but he has a set of HO heads and he put a HO style cam back in it. I will try to post pics so you can see the car.

Thanks,
Steve

The steering wheel in the car is not the original one as i'm sure you noticed. He does have it, he put that one in so he could send the original one out to be restored because it has some cracks in it but he didn't get around to doing that.

$28-$34K I'd say. Very nice car. Very rare car.

I wish I had money! Does he have documentation for the car?
Without it the prices will be several thousand less than with.

I agree with Hitman. What does the undercarriage look like?
Also the 2+2 was an option in 65 just like GTO was an option. To get the most you really need the PHS. If you are not familier with Pontiac Historical services they will supply you with a copy of the original build sheet. For a fee of 60.00. For another 25 you can recieve a reproduction of the window sticker with the selling dealer Name. It is pretty cool.
You might want to check out the 2+2 registry.
There is a member here searching for a 65 vert. Check out the full size wanted section.http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=639464
For me, I would love to see a picture of the 2 letter engine code on the front of the block just below the passenger cylinder head. It is below the engine number, if it is an HO it will say WJ if it is the 356 hp Tri-power it will be WH.
The 2+2 registry has 3 HO 4 speed verts I think. So there are not very many. Get the PHS to verify.
I love the car.
Prayers sent for your friend.
If you have anymore questions please ask.

patrick

I did see that in the wanted section and I emailed him but I haven't got a responce yet. I was just over there to take some pics but my batteries were dead in the camera. Going back now to get the pics. I don't think he has those docs but I will find out. I believe he is a member of this site.

the E in the vin is Linden New Jersey, 11D on the trim tag is 4th week November 64'.
I first thought it to be WG which is the 4bbl version. Seeing the G and a faint W but stamped in the wrong place. Anything is possable, never say never.
So a little more investigating is needed. Does the block have 2 or 3 freeze plugs?
3 would be a 67 and later block.
You will also want to try and identify the casting number it should be 9778791. This is the casting for all 65 421 blocks.
The date code on the block in on the distributor pad. Very hard to read.
Being 4th week of Nov. You would want to see a code around 1st or 2nd week of November. Maybe late Oct. It would read something like K564 which would be Nov 5th 64.
Wallace racing has a fantastic site explaining pontiac engine codes
http://www.wallaceracing.com/engine1.htm

It is a very nice car. I would love to have it but I allready have one.
The PHS would tell exactly which engine it was delivered with. Upgrading is very easy on these engines.
Have fun. Hopefully some more knowledge will chime in a little later.

I like the clock bezel on the batt gauge. The NJ GP I just parted VIN E1118?? Had clock bezels on the batt and fuel gauges.

Must have been a jersey thing

He only put that wheel on so he could get the original one redone. Just didn't get to it.

The clock bezel has the little cut-out for the stem in it.

I wonder if you got that when you had a clock delete. Might have been why they had a bunch of extras. I have seen lots of Cats with the delete.

I also thought that the angles were slightly different on each application, but I don't know '65s that well. If I remember right I have unsuccessfully tried to switch them around on both a '63 & '66.

Deadhead, my safari came without clock but has the set stem cutout.

I've only sean the wrong bezels on New Jersey built cars, never on KC, CA, or Pontiac built car.

Patrick, I spoke with him a while ago and put him in touch with my friend with the 66 2+2 conv for sale. Maybe the fact that they are 3000 miles apart has something to do with things??
