This car has 4-way flasher and rally guages - nice extras to have, especially if they were from the factory. The tach is a '66 model, with the redline. Early '65 tach would have a solid green RPM line. It was either added later, or replaced. Shift knob should be black - GTO's were white. If the PHS verifies that this car is correct, it would be a very desirable & rare car. If he has the original heads, and the car is mechanically sound & body rust-free, I'd put this car closer to $45-50K.

I don't know if I can get the date code off the distributor pad. Do I have to pull the distributor to get it?

Just wanted to say along with everyone else "very nice car"!
You should be able to view the date code with one of those small mirrors on a stick, with a flash light. |

Bills 2+2 re:Tachometer
Bills 2+2
The tachometer in your photo belongs in a 66 full-size. I have an equally nice 65 tachometer with the correct solid green RPM line if you would be interested in making a swap I found out after I bought mine years ago that the tachometer was for a 1965 or early 66. My 66 Bonneville is a late production 66. Beautiful car either way, no matter what the PHS comes out to be! I'm sure everyone on the forum would love to own it, including me! I did promise my bride that my 66 Bonneville convertible was my LAST project. Ron

Block Date
The 2+2 cars are Very Cool! The one that recently sold on ebay (link posted above) shows the steel vacuum line for the automatic coming up on the R.H. side of intake. Does anyone have pics showing how it connects around to the L.H. side of carbs?? Although this is my 66 GTO, you should still be able to view the block date looking down from outside between back of open hood and firewall. These pics just taken showing Nov. 29, 1965 date.

You don't get the same view on a B-body.

Mirror?
My lack of knowledge on the Big Cats, sorry about that. Maybe as suggested above an extendable mirror and flash light?

9773157 is a 64 421 block. Good news its a 421 block, bad news not a 65 block..Has been replaced in its life at sometime.
64 codes as follows 35B 38S 43N 44B 47S 49N 45B 46G 50Q IMO it may have been a service replacement block that someone in the past restamped with the vin as the engine unit number. patrick

The code I found by the distributor was J803. Any Ideas on that?

Patrick If it's a true early build it may have a 64 block in it. Older PHS will show an EUN for the block. IF all the dates line up on it I probably wouldn't question it.

I will get the PHS so I can verify everything. I will print it out today and see if I can fax them the info tomorrow. That did look like a 0 not a 6 but I will check again. I going to try to find the build sheet I just haven't had time.

We, the pontiac community are so fortunate for this service. No other GM division has the records that PHS has. patrick

It would be nice if all GM did. Not that it would help with my car as it's not stock. I'm more of a chevy guy but I love all the old cars. Here is a pic of my car on the lift next to the 2+2.
