I'd better ask my mom soon ...don't remember if I had them (yep ...50+ :-0 )? If I did then a trip to the Dr. is in order.

Glad to hear you're over that.

The 421 HO looks great. I'll post a picture for you of the "extra" set of HO valve covers I had made. Had a set of valve covers without the tall stacks that were the correct HO "style" (forget what they were from) and then I found a set with the stacks (that I mistakenly thought were real HO's -think they were 64 GTO's) ...had a guy remove the stacks from the 64's and very nicely weld them onto the other valve covers where the breather holes were. They turned out very nice and can only be noticed as "not" actual HO's by someone who knows what they are looking at. Most would be hard pressed to tell the difference ...

Can't remember the last time I saw a set of HO valve covers for sale ...would be a few $$ now. I have this affliction for having at least one spare "everything" ... :-)

Default HO Valve Covers

Bob,

Hope you don't mind some of my pictures on your thread ...:-). I was searching my backup hard drive for these the other night and accidentally left a picture open when I unplugged the HD ...that is a sure way to screw it up! Could not access the HD without a bit of help and some recovery software. Got all the pictures and documents recovered today. I'm gonna make another backup and be more careful.

imag0156 are my original real valve covers -right pair, left pair are the ones I had made from GTO stacks and non HO's.

imag0133 is my restored steering wheel attached to the original column

1,3,5,& 8 are some 421 shots

Well.. its bern awhile since i've posted an update on my project. I have a 3 week delay getting the car back to the shop for the doghouse install. So the 8lugs were pulled and delivered to larry in new lenox, il for new linings yesterday. Today we finished up the distributor installing the brass dizzy gear points and condensor. Next task is to install the pusher fuel pump. This will have a bypass so it can be used on-demand and i'm going to duplicate a setup found on the forum.

Brake pads going on this week and finishing up the drums. Larry did a nice job on the relining. Per advice from larry,i settled with a cleanup only. Used 80grit glass bead at 35psi in my cabinet and touched up the fins. Fins were taped off with duct tape before blasting. And.... we aligned the rear bumper and installed the nos reverse lights. Getting there....

Very Nice Bob. My heart dropped a little looking at the eight lug picture. So many details you don't notice until later ....I didn't realize the fins where shiny like that. I had mine blasted 6 or more years ago. Just went out to the shed to look at them ...yep shine has been blasted away. :-(. I'll have to correct that as best I can.

Oh ...forgot to ask. So per Larry the eight lugs should be cleaned up with no added coating - just the natural aluminum? I've seen so many different variations over the years it's hard to get a sense of what they were like when the car was new.

Thx

Bob, those NOS back-up lights look great! Glad you were able to get them. She's looking mighty fine. Keep up the good work.

Not trying to steal from your post here but just giving you an update on my progress. I have five items left to finish on the Catalina Convertible, (1) the tilt return cancel ( it still has to be manually returned), (2) installing the choke mount for the dual fours (just had the pull replated), and (3) adjusting the window stops/tracks, (4) new top (old one just doesn't "pop" like it used to), (5) install rebuilt Pwr driver's seat . Just need to find a week's worth of time to concentrate on these and finish her. Then, I will start on the Bonneville. Dad was real proud of both of these cars.

Bruce, i have a photo of my car on poci's website taken within four months of the 12B build date. The hubs were pretty bright in that b&w photo. My rims were virgin having never been cleaned up previously. Saw no indication of any paint or clear. Just oxidation. Larry did say they were some of the nicest he's reworked. Not sure that fins were that shiny but thats how they came out after sanding with 600/1200/1500.

Ziggy, did u have anything to do with those reverse lights goin up on epay? I swear they hit immediately after inquiring on the forum. Not cheap but glad i got em. And glad i kept the seals behind the old ones. Not included by gm.

That's a great picture on the POCI site Bob. You can see the shadow of your mom or dad taking it. Too bad the little devices we have now were not around then ...there would be so many more original pictures. :-)

Bob ...you may have mentioned this before ...but would love to hear the story behind your dad's decision to order 421 HO/4spd ....had he always owned Pontiacs?

Thx

When I put 8 lugs on my car, I had them bead blasted first, then I used a flat file to clean up the fins. It went pretty fast and they came out nice.
