Dad's first pontiac was a 59 bonne tripower convertible that he bought new. He wouldve been 21 and was working 2-3 jobs to satisfy his car craving. Then, a 62 cat 389 which he just told me about last year. The 63 which he was kind enough to hold onto for me, and his last poncho was a 65gp 421ho. Said the 65 was problematic and had a taste for oil. From there he started selling cars owning olds and a buicks. He always liked fast but comfortable cars and in the late seventys thru 1990 owned a numbr of nissan z cars. He still has his 1990 twin turbo manual and i dont think it has 15k miles on it.

Lots of cool stories out here about our dads. Keith and ziggy come to mind.

Probably the best story i have about my dad was when i was 16. Told dad my 63 wasnt that fast, wouldnt spin the tires and top end around 90mph. He looked at me, laughed and said "push harder on that accelrator". Boy was he right. Had been driving on the center carb only for probably 3-4 months. Go figure. Progressive linkage. Tires didnt last long after that conversation.

Thx Bob ...love hearing about that stuff. My dad owned Pontiacs the whole time I was growing up ...but he usually had a SW and didn't do much hot rodding :-(

On they go. Only issue is a missing antirattle washer for the emergency brake assembl to back shoe. Nylon washer will have to do.

So many Questions ....

Did you retain RH/LH threads on the eight lugs? Last time I looked you could only get new RH thread lug nuts if needed (have not looked for a good while). My originals are ok ....but would look better new.

Thx

All the lh/rh studs were good. Havent put alot of thought into the lug nut issue but assume rechroming the originals could be costly.

My bigger issue at hand is the speedo cable install. The M22 locates the speedo housing on the passenger side. Routing decision and a decision on cable length have my head spinning. Suggestions welcome!

Original is 63". Have located an 83" and 100". The 83" would work if i used a 90deg adapter at the housing. The adapter leaves the tail housing at a 45deg down. Not ideal if youre wanting to keep loop tight to floor or tranny housing. Have also considered bringing it to the firewall from the passengee side up and clipped to the upper bolts on the bellhousing making its way to the brake booster. Read that buick used this route in some applications. But really would prefer having it attach to the original bracket on the steering column. Argg

Well.. went from a 63" to a 83" speedo cable and routed it around the front of the tranny using a cable tie attached to the back flywheel dust cover housing bolt. Going to fab a bracket off the bottom right trans bolt to bell housing and i should get by without having to drill a hole in the pass side floorpan. Nice gradual bends. Knock on wood.. car goes back to resto shop next weekend. Baaahumbug!!!!

Time to order 15" rims but am not sure about rim width. Was considering 215-70-15 (26.9") up front and 255-60-15 (27") on back. Initial thoughts are 15x7 all around for the rims but I recall Bob Lundwall of Retromotive using the 15-8s on the back of his 64GP 6sp. Anyone running the 8's on a 62-64 out there? How's the fit? And a second question regarding finish. Have read that the powder coating is average at best. Anyone using their chrome rims and how is the quality?

thx.

Bob

Thx rex. Hard to believe one year ag the car was bare metal with thr d/s qtr and wheehouse removed. Way more fun now than the welding and fab phase. And... i owe u a visit to bloomington after i work the bugs out of it.

I must be dreaming. The restoration shop is finally ready for my car. You know the saying... three weeks really means three months. If the weather holds out, she goes in monday.

Thanks for the offer rex. Those roll offs are too convenient. Car never touched the snow from point a to b.

Interior starting to take shape. Headliner is in and while shop does their thing, i pulled out the oem dash i picked up a few years back, prepped and dyed it with SEM burgundy for vinyl/plastic. Laid down real nice.
