Default 400 Crank differences

I recently bought a 400 almost complete, Thanks Ross for the good deal.
Anyway. It has a crank woth the small flange for the flexplate. All the motors I have ever rebuilt ( 1-400, 2-428s, 3- 455s ) have all had the large diameter flexplate flange. Is there a disadvantage to the small dianeter flange? Were the weaker cranks? This appears to be a 1973 400, 2- bolt block not drilled for 4- bolt caps. I have to clean it up to determine if its the 557 block or not. Its going to be a pretty basic build for now.

Small register crank is quite a bit lighter than the others. I prefer to use them for almost all of our 400 builds.

I believe I used a small flange 350 crank in my previous 400 557 block combo, it lasted fine,7000rom every run , hundreds of runs over 3 years, only around 575hp though.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll just have to get a flexplate or I have seen a spacer to use a large diameter flexplate on this crank.
