Here's a 428 block that needed a tensioner added. This is an LS one modified to fit.

Milodon single idler won't make noise and is accurate when properly set up. Mine's been in service for 10 years now.

I have a Milodon single idle as well for about 10 yrs. and is very quiet. I don't know what sound it makes because I've never heard any. No more chains for me.

OK the Milodon gear set sound like a viable option but I have always wondered how do you degree the cam in using gears is there an adjustment?

Yes, you can time the cam. Here's a link, instructions tab is at the bottom, I didn't check it, but there's a separate pdf also available, Google. They also offer a video which I didn't use. Not sure it was even available when I did mine.
Edited to add: I would HIGHLY recommend you take their advice and do this with the engine out and on a stand.

I have run the Milodon gear drive in the past. Really nice piece. Quiet and accurate. Will be putting another in my next race engine.

I have a new .010 under Cloyes chain. The good one, made in Germany. 25$. The complete Cloyes billet .010 chain sets are about 160$. You would have to buy the gears. Cloyes will give you the part numbers and you can buy them from Summit.
My block has been line bored and it is not even close to fitting my block. I ordered a std chain. |

If you don't want to throw out his name , could you tell what city and state he works from ? The hint could benefit others

We ran into this issue a few months back on a 455 Olds engine we built. We bought a new Cloyes Street True Roller(Cast Gears) set $60, and it was waayyy too lose. After doing some research over on the Olds Forum, I quickly found out it was a common issue with that set. Everyone said to order the Cloyes Street Roller( Billet Gears) Set $85, as it fit much tighter, and sure enough, it cured the issue for us, the new set fit perfectly snug. Both sets were standard length. Not sure if there had been any same problem with our Pontiacs or not, but just thought I would share our experience.

Unfortunately I had them do my block, too. I was told under a week turnaround (I now know why!) Three months later I got the block back in time for me to leave AZ. When I got back and was doing the assembly, I couldn't begin to install the cam. Just looking at the bearing I could see it was no longer round. How could the builder not see the bearing deforming during installation.?
