Default Solar Red?

Is this the correct Solar Red? Not advertising this car in anyway. Just making sure the color is right. I like the hue of this color. It's a subdued red that compliments the interior color in my opinion. I'll be painting my car back to its factory Solar Red.

Thanks,
Bryan

I believe Solar Red was brighter red than that car. I do like the the color on that car as well, just not original in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep looking at the Solar Reds. I have a long way to go before paint. Rear driver quarter is done though. What a pain.

This was my Solar Red GTO when it was less than a year old.
Photo in my signature was taken in the early 70s.

Remember, lighting plays a big part in how colors pop. It Could be Solar Red (which tends to have more yellow in it - brighter) but it certainly looks to match Matador red (more blue) from 1969. You need brighter light to discern but I lean more toward a brighter red for Solar. Camera can make a huge difference, as can sunlight....

Here's an example on a cloudy day of a 1969 Matador Red GTO for comparison

Thank you. Big difference between sun and no sun. I was able to snap these photos of a supposedly an original car.

Sorry Guys - I got ahead of myself. Cardinal Red is a 1970 color. Matador Red is a 1969 color - much different than Solar Red for 1968. Codes for Solar and Cardinal below

Here is a link to great pictures of a 1-owner original 68 Solar Red convertible

Here are links to paint codes from GM and the major paint suppliers for the two

This is the car photo I always associate with solar red. Love the color, definitely my favorite red.

isn't solar red, basically huggar orange for chev in 1969? it is true the solar red at night can look red. camera , light play a big role. however matador red is red full time all the time. from what i gather.

No. Huggar orange is the exact same paint as 69 Carousel Red for Judge. Solar Red for 68 is a true red. Solar uses a yellow-hued red vs 69 Matador using a blue-hued red. Solar is absolutely RED and bright. Matador is more subdued. They are different ends of the Red spectrum. BUT...nothing close to Orange.

Another question - What color primer should go underneath Solar Red? I've heard that primer can affect the appearance of the top coat.
Thanks!

Photo was taken at my grandmothers house in coastal Oregon early 1969. She lived across the street from a state park, where people would dump their animals. She probably was feeding over a dozen cats a day. Some of which liked a warm hood on a cold Oregon morning.
