Default Safari gas tank removal

Need to pull the tank on my 63.....

I think I have everything unbolted.....both front shrouds (upper and lower) are off as well as strap nut.

Have I missed something...or do I just need to give it a whack?

A couple of years back I had to lower the tank on my '66 Grand Prix. It did not want to drop down with everything removed.

I eventually sort of pried it down a bit with a piece of wood and it sort of peeled away from the floor pan. On top of the tank was a thick bitumen type of insulation matting and the tank had literally stuck itself to the underside of the trunk floor.

Possibly you have the same problem?

Ian

PS, when I dropped the tank out, I did find a very stained and rotten copy of the cars build sheet.

Safari tanks (61-64) are mounted side saddle.......in the left quarter behind the rear wheel....

Different deal than car....

The tank in my ‘63 Safari was very hard to break loose. They fit pretty tight. I have a new one to put back in. You can also get a new strap if yours is rotted.

Check to see what municipal hazardous waste disposal options are available in your area. Many cities or counties have provisions for disposing of old gasoline at no charge.
