Default 1958 Canadian Pontiac

Hi Guys,

These pics are from a 1958 Canadian Pontiac.

I understand that the suspension components are different between Pontiacs and Chevs, however, I also know that Canadian Pontiacs used Chev drivetrains.

Can anyone tell me if this is a Pontiac engine and suspension? or is it Chev? I think its all Chev?

Thanks for your help

Chevy drivetrain and chassis under those cars.

That’s a Chevy 235 six in your pictures.

It was a Chevy six but they used the 261ci version. You can see a 1958 Canadian Pontiac brochure here: https://oldcarbrochures.org/Canada/G...ure/index.html

My bad.

I at first thought 261 but the 4 bolt valve cover threw me off. All the ‘54 -‘62 235 & 261 sixes have the 4-bolt valve cover, the earlier engines had 2 long studs in the center retaining it.

Unless it's been changed I believe it should have been built with a 261. I don't think any 58 Canadian Pontiacs came with a 235.

Thanks Carl,

I'm not too concerned about the driveline, but I understand that the suspension components are different between Chev and Pontiac, and want to be sure I order the correct parts for this car. (steering, suspension )

I believe I need to order 1958 Chev parts, for this Pontiac.
