Default Evap-o-rust question

For those of you who have experience with Evap-o-rust, does it remove gold cad and/or gold iridite platings?
For many years I've used my own concoction of diluted acids to remove rust, but don't like the fact it totally removes any & all finishes.

I'd ask Joy Bitter. (jbitter@daubertcromwell.com) She's super nice to talk to and just happens to be the VP of sales and marketing for Daubert Cromwell the maker of Evap-o-Rust.

Yes, is absolutely removes it. I soaked an old brake booster in the stuff and it reverted to bare metal. No trace of the gold cad finish remained. It will also remove the black phosphate finish on original bolts.

Sounds like it is some sort of acid.

It does sound that way, but the cans clearly say "no acids". Must be a strong base then?

Evapo-rust is neither an acid or a base (pH 6.0-7.1) but is a metal chelator.
