Default Comments on this 7041268 carb?

According to my info, a 7041268 should be ID code XC. But this eBay carb is VE. Doesn't look like a restamp, but..........
What do you guys think.

Forgot to mention that as an A/T carb, there should be a port for the vacuum modulator line, which is missing on the "268".

uh oh

its a 7041263 that has been tampered just enough to make the 3 into an 8

VE is the plant/pick code for 7041263 carbs
And many other xxxx263 carbs
Good eye on that Ric .

The missing modulator port goes in hand with a virgin manual 7041263 also.

Case Closed

That little mod changes it from a $500 NOS carb to a $2800 NOS carb

LOL. He even used a Sharpie to alter the "3" on the box to and "8" as well.

Simple GREED, just too easy for the seller to carefully write an ad & offer a very obvious restamped 7041263 for a price equal to 2.5 times the going price of a non altered nice finish 0571 dated 7041263.

So who is the seller, phoenixpnr, out of Keymar, MD?
Have viewed his auctions for years, may have bought a part from this Smuck.

well that sucks...

I have been having a little fun collecting 1968-1974 carbs... to what end, I don't know, but I am probably going to start selling the extra L78/M40 & L75/M40 carbs I have because my main fascination lays in L78/mt & L74/MT application carbs...
I nearly bought a 7041263 over a decade ago before their prices skyrocketed...

I don't know why people have to muck around with these carbs - as I see it, that carb is now worth less than if he had just left it alone, and resold it as an NOS 7041263.

What a senseless waste of a nice virgin carb.

Understand the market well, over the years, have sold five original date Rochestor "1263"s and three original date 7041268's (one left here on a '71 T/A project). All of my '71 & '72 HO cars & the '72 400 4spd Coupe have correct date range original Qjets. Several of the '72 stick Qjets came via the Rochestor Plant monster stock that hit Dallas in '96.

Thanks for the confirmation. That's what I was thinking too. But the tinkered-with '3' had me wondering. It's a pretty good restamp.

BTW, yes, I could use a good core 7041268 for my '71 TA. It has a Delco SR carb dated 1978.

phoenixpnr is a member on this site
i recognized his name from a thread i posted in the other day in the 61-66 Big Car Section.

Seems to be a seldom user of the site.
But it might not hurt to give half a doubt or quarter doubt that he may have gotten duped when he bought it.
And is about to take a bath.

Either way

Its GREAT that hopefully no one else on this site will take a bath with him.
What if Ric didnt have the wisdom he has
He mighta hit that B-I-N for NOS @ 2800

Bad part is , someone probably will if it stays listed long enough , or gets price reduced.

Who wants to contact this fellow and give him the news ?
Can you Flag it on eBay maybe ?

I already sent the seller a message through eBay before this thread was started telling him (or her) that it started life as a 7041263, whether they realized it or not. No response to my message and the ad has not been updated, so I'm speculating they had something to do with the restamp.

As has been said, the only motivation (for changing the "3" to an "8") was greed, whomever did it. An NOS -1263 with production date would have been very desirable to begin with. In my opinion, it's worth less than a -1263 or a -1268 now that it's been f-ed with...too bad. A -1263 is a perfect replacement for a -1267 or -1273.
