Default General Motors unveils a new Corporate Logo

The new GM official corporate logo is probably not a big deal in the overall scheme of things, but I really don't like it. It is a softening approach to their identity. GM says it symbolizes their global commitment to electric cars and is supposed to look like an electric plug. To me, it looks like the change from a strong Upper case GM block to the soft curve, lower case gm, symbolizes the general lower level of importance gm has in the world market. Similar to what they did with the Oldsmobile logo, taking away the rocket and making it a swirling swoosh like a Toyota. Anyone remember "New Coke"? What do you think of it?

Default "new" gm logo

Terrible. Looks soft, or neutered. Really dislike it when logos are changed for the "sake of change". Other examples were when Popular Hot Rodding changed from their long standing cover logo, to the block letters. Why? Completely unnecessary. Another one is the change of the Miami Dolphins helmet logo. Or the "clearview" sign font on many states highway signs. Completely unneeded and a waste of money.

They’re wanting a new image as Tesla is now 4 times bigger on the market cap.

Companies update or revise their corporate logos all the time, it's just a fact of life. Per Champ's post they've had the same basic logo for 57 years, which is probably longer than most.

Thumbs down

That may be but it doesn't distract from IMHO being a very LIMP LOGO.

Makes zero difference to me. I quit caring about GM on April 27th 2009.

Not all companies try to change their logo to something barely recognizable. Since 1912, you pretty much knew what a Ford product logo would look like. The new soft gm logo could just as well be general mills making cereal.

Simple explanation.

The GM logo is far too brash and manly and needed to be emasculated like most things in the world seem to be going. It is no doubt catered to women and the "soft spoken" proponents who will be pushing for and purchasing electric vehicles to save the environment and ward off the effects of climate change.

I’m a Women and I like the bolder font one. Not this new one looks to millennialish for me. Yuk!
