Hood Hinges
My normal procedure after going for a ride is to pull into my garage, open my hood, disconnect the battery and leaving the hood open allowing the car to cool.
Yesterday, after pulling into the garage, I attempted to open the hood. For some reason it bound and I had a difficult time opening it. After a little force, it opened, but not before hearing a loud "pop" from the drivers side hinge as it opened. So I guess, one of this years' immediate projects is replacing the hood hinges because I am afraid if I close the hood again, I won't be able to open it. And since it is a 1 year hood, I don't want to jeopardize bending it, or causing other damage if that happens. I plan on buying the hood hinge kit from Ames., but I have never done this before. Is there a proper way of replacing them? Thanks! |

Do this...I did and was very satisfied. They come back in new condition and fit like OEM parts should.

I was watching that video and I was wondering how that technique would solve the problem of worn rivet shafts or pivot holes that were egged out. Re-staking the rivet would tighten up the side to side slop but doesn't seem like it would help alignment issues from egged holes or worn rivet shafts.
I've done a decent amount of solid riveting, but I've never restored a set of hinges so I can't be sure. |

Roland Hall did mine and said he made the rivets, $25 to stamp the letters on, and mentioned something about one of the rivets being hollow? Said he could put a solid rivet in if I wanted, would last longer so went that route. Never heard of the hollow rivet or peeps just trying to stake them.
