Default accel super coil

I have a couple of old, lightly used accel super coils, like this one:

https://www.holley.com/products/igni...l/parts/140001

These have been in storage since the 90’s. Both my old vehicles have programmable 6al boxes and ready to run distributors with msd blaster 2 coils.

Is there any advantage to these things over the standard msd coil, and are they likely to still work after 25 years in storage?

They possibly could be better made than coils as of late due to their age
Yes they can still work fine if cooling oil has not leaked out or corrosion on terminals

Some of your digital boxes have different demands on a coil

I run one on my race car because I had it, one less thing to buy. Never had any issues using MSD Digital 6 and MSD distributor. The only thing I don't like is the size.

Ok, thanks. I will hold onto them and maybe give one a shot if one of my blaster coils fails.

Don't just hold onto it by keeping it on one of your shelves in the garage, keep one in your spare parts box in your car's Trunk!

I've yet to see one of those Yellow Disasters in person that wasn't a completely useless POS. Maybe I am the exception, a bad data point on the statistical map. I use MSD coils with my MSD Digital boxes, and never a problem. But over the years, quite a few "hot rodded" cars were brought to me because they ran like ***t - and that coil was almost always part of the problem. I'm glad you have better success!

IF the cars also came with that triangular foam air filter, it also got ****canned. Another horrible idea. "Lets make it run rich, AND more likely to cause an engine compartment fire, yeah, thats the ticket!"

I've only ever heard of one actually failing. Looking back I think I now know why. Oil filled coils don't like being mounted sideways.

I have a couple of them hanging on the wall. They always worked good for me way back when. 35 years ago?? Yeah they are that old.

If you don't want them and they still work, they aren't hard to sell. The day 2 movement is pretty strong these days and guys are always looking for vintage speed parts to have that look. Some of the stuff now, like fly eye air cleaners, motion valve covers, old MSD boxes from the 70's are fetching pretty good money.
