Default 69 GP Front/Lens Covers(2)Parking/Directional

Gents, the below was posted in another area of the site, but I have been told this might be a better forum to be on... your thoughts....

I have a 1969 GP. One of my lens cover is from 70-72 (with the side reflector). The 1969 Lens is hard to find. If you do find one, they are cracked or "crazed".

My objective is survey how many people out there would be interested in a 1969 clear corner light cover for right and left.(they are not the same part)

People in my business, make tools for molded acrylic parts. It is very possible to mold these 2 parts, but will take a lot of money for the tool.

I have sent a note to PY to see if made we could sell on the site.
(No response).

This part also requires a gasket that I am looking into.

My question to all: Does anyone knows the number of 1969 GP owners out there and if anyone is interested in my idea of building this part as NEW!

This would confirm if I can move forward to make the money back to pay for the tool, if orders can be placed... on PY if I can work this out or direct from myself or my parts molder. My objective it to be able to make this part for me and other 69 GP owners, not as a business.........Your thoughts would be appreciated.

A few items I'm amazed no one reproduces:

1... Proper top well... Repro liners are just cloth, originals were cloth on the interior side but on the trunk side they had a layer of insulation covered with trash bag style black plastic woven in place with stitching.

2... Soft ray rear glass for convertibles.... Every convertible (that had a glass rear window) with AC or otherwise ordered with tinted glass-all windows came with a softray rear window as part of the top curtain.

3... 69 automatic exhaust extensions.... Every automatic GTO including Judges and RA IV's all had 2" tail pipes with resonators but only the 2.25 " manual trans version of exhaust extensions are reproduced.

4... Black Exhaust pipes.... Even great Companies like Gardiner exhaust sell repro exhaust systems with aluminized front exhaust pipes. While factory exhaust systems were aluminized from the muffler back the front exhaust pipes were painted black. This is quite noticeable in the engine bay on non A/C cars. Btw, in some years these front pipes were also double walled.

Hello. I belong to the 69GP72 Yahoo group and have tried to get the interest up for these 69 parking light lenses, not cornering light lenses (that's different). I have had very good response... I asked the guys IF I get enough "potential orders" for these lenses, I might be able to get these lenses started as a project. I did this from my home e-mail, so I don't know exact numbers, but I think it was around 25 sets or so. I've also toyed with the idea of getting back to the mfg of the 70-72 and have them just use clear pellets. As of right now, the guys who are doing the 70-72 lenses are on indefinite back order with no ETA.

I myself have the 69 GP on the PY GP catalog cover, so I am VERY interested in any post regarding these lenses. I have been asking a particular repro guy since 1990 and there has been nothing done. Now that I work for PY, I've investigated the lens and see why this other guy is having problems getting it made. The mold is very deep and with the pressures needed to inject the plastic, there is some kinda problem.

You mentioned you sent something to PY about this... I have not seen anything come thru, or I would have definitely chimed in.

PY would be willing to help/assist this if you want to get into it. Please give me a call and ask for Grand Prix Mike and we can discuss further.

Also, you are looking for the lens gaskets... We started to carry them after we got them made back in 2010. The p/n is B1660P. Also the parking light socket reflector to header panel/cornering light socket to housing gasket I got made too. The p/n is B1661P. Any other questions, comments, please let me know. GP Mike

Default Rally I trim rings

It's probably been asked for before or even begged for, but correct reproduction Rally I trim rings with the four clips that don't hit the wheel disc slots. They need to be the correct 2-1/8" deep ones instead of the Rally II rings everyone sells.
