Default Converter for a TH400

Since Continental is no more who offers a quality TC these days?

'77 Grand Prix with a stock 400/TH400 highway 2.41 gear.

I think stock size is 13" with a 1500ish stall?

Not cheap, but I bought a TSP (Tri Shield Performance) through Cliff and have been very happy with it. From what I understand its similar to the old Continentals. Flashes plenty on the track but minimal slippage cruising.

Ive never used one but Jakes Performance says they do basic non lockup converters for $275 IIRC. They have a general good customer reputation. I think I would do that before I bought an off the shelf unit from Summit.

The Hughes GM20 worked great behind my mild NOM 400 and 3.08 gears

Limelight, refer to grivera ... my Hugues is "functioning" but not driveable yet. Car isn't on the road, but in the chassis it does all the things it's supposed to so far. And seemed of good quality, balance and no leaks or noise.

I bought the same one as grivera ... the GM20

I have a custom 9.5" Freakshow converter in my race car that goes 10.01 that has 6.8% slip across the stripe that cost $295 shipped 6 years ago. Just another data point. It worked so well I bought another one for my street car and it works great. I bought a Continental 5 years ago for my friends car with a 461 ci with the OF HR cam and it is mush, it needs to get restalled, another data point. I thought I was safe with the Conti since so many people had good success with them, I got the Jim Hand special. Not trying to steer you in any direction, just trying to offer some real world data.

If your having issues with your Continental converter contact Lenny @ Ultimate Converter Concepts (he used to work with Kriss years ago).
I recently had issues with my Continental converter and sent it to Lenny, he fixed it.
