Default turn signal flasher

My turn signals seem to not have a normal blinking pattern. Turn signals blink slow and a bit faster when engaged. Would this be a bad flasher? It was in the car when I restored it. It's probably 30 years old. I have no history of function, since car was apart when purchased. I have another spare flasher from another car. Are these specific to certain years?

The type of flasher you need depends on how many bulbs are flashing or if trailer towing. I think you would need a flasher that is for 3 or more bulbs.
Flashers are still fairly easy to find in the size you need but as with all things regarding newer cars, the computer controls the flashing rate so the flasher will also be a relic in the future.

Lets say the car has the right flashers in it. If turn signals are slow and emergency/hazard are too fast. You would need to switch the two.

The issue seems to be the signal is not consistent in it's timing. It blinks at a regular rate about three or four times, then speeds up for a couple blinks, then slower speed again. It stays this way until it cancels from turn.

Stick your spare flasher in it and see if the timing is consistant. It might be too fast or too slow but you can see if the rate still fluctuates.

Do all the bulbs look right when flashing?? Possibly wrong bulb or bad ground at the sockets?

These are all new bulbs. Not sure what it looks like from outside car. I made sure I had good clean grounds when I finished resto this year. The flasher was the only old part I reused, so thought that could be the culprit.

Get an electric flasher unit.... for both signal lights and 4-ways.
