Got the PHS today.
This car has a lot of options. Some I wasn't aware of and I can hardly wait to see. I've never seen the lighted ignition swith or opera lights up close. Also cool to see that it has a safe-t-track differential. All nice surprises. |

Lots of options...if only they had chosen 326HO and 4 speed...looking forward to pics after delivery.

I’m counting my lucky stars. If the car had a 4sp or the HO, we may not have gotten a hold of it.

Safe-t-track is really cool. Frankly, I believe most GTOs and other so-called muscle cars came with open differentials back when they were new so that's pretty special to have one from the factory on a 326 LeMans.

My 67 Tempest has a 2.56 safety track rear. I'm just not sure why, no chance that car was leaving two stripes with that gear and an ST300.

Remember, the owner manuals don't mention burnouts...only the limited slip characteristics on slippery surfaces.

Supposed to be here Monday. We’ve ordered the window sticker from PHS and I’m interested in the tally for the accoutrements.
I was thinking about when it gets here and about checking to see if everything works. Windows are easy enough. The lights have switches. The safe-t-track, well... But how does that lighted ignition switch work? I’d like to check that right away. I’m sure that it’s not a delayed light or a glow ring. So in this case, will it light up when the door opens? Or if the dash lights are on? If that’s the case then what would be the benefit of having it lamped? |

Hmmm never thought about how the lighted key switch would turn on...maybe with the driver door jamb switch.
Safe t track would just take a floor jack under the rear, throw it in neutral, spin a tire...

Never thought about that either.
In '68 at least, it was fed by a strand of fiber optic with one end fitting into the gauge pod so that it was fed by the dash lights...so yeah, you have to have the dash lights on. Mine is missing the strand so I've never been able to use it. Never noticed it on the '68 I had back in the '80s but it was probably in place and working as that car had not been modified beyond an aftermarket radio.. As for the safe-t-trac rear, I guess you know the drill about jacking the car up and turning one wheel? If both turn the same way it's there.

05:50 this morning. The battery was dead so we rolled her off and into the driveway. I had to run. I’m turning over part of my hospital project today. But let’s just say that I’m not working any later than I have to today. Hopefully get some pics when it’s light out. The car is full of stuff.

GOOD STUFF...
An amazing little Pontiac with some great add ons.
Best of luck with it. Cheers!

I say don't look at anything 'til Christmas!
Go to bed about 6pm on Christmas eve, wake up at 10pm and ask your wife, is it Christmas yet?!! Is it Christmas yet?!! Seriously, looks like you found a winner there.

Hopefully that fender didn't tear up the interior.

We’ll see when I get home. I thought that I was going to get off work at a decent time today. Then my project manager sets up a meeting for 3:30. Dang.

Ok, Pontiac family. Let me know how I may identify the engine that they installed in place of the 326. It’s supposedly a 400.

You can start by checking the 2 letter engine code on the passenger side of the front of the block just below the cylinder head. The date code is near the distributor on the drivers side top of the block. You can then go to "Wallace Racing" and look for Pontiac engine codes. That will tell you what size engine you have. There is also a block casting # on the passenger side rear of the block.
