I have a 1966 GP that is unfortunately destined for the salvage yard. I want to remove the differential case, ring gear and related internals before "donating" the car to the yard. But both the tow company and the yard require that the car be able to roll. So is there a way for me to remove these rear axle parts and still keep the car a roller? I do not need the axle shafts and axle housing so they can (if there is no other option) remain in place. Or is there an inexpensive "adapter" that I can buy or fabricate that would allow the rear wheels to remain in place and turn without the need to keep the axle in the car at all?

I used a short piece of pipe, drilled with a nut & bolt in the middle to keep the piece from sliding out of place

One thing to consider, unless you have another pair of '65-70 Pontiac B series axles, thy might be worth removing @ the crusher yard upon delivery. the '65-70 big Pontiac axle uses a sealed design axle bearing & they are bad about seizing & chewing up the axle under the bearings inner race, then it's time to hunt a good used axle OR spend considerable $$$ with Moser on a custom pair of new axles.
