Default What if you drained the oil and the fuel and flip the engine upside-down ?

Presuming that if you loosen the rocker nuts up so that they're only attached by a thread or so but do not remove them, the lifters would be up (down, when the engine is upside-down) enough to clear the camshaft lobes.

Just thinking outside the box.......

This should work on a engine stand but it would make mess even if you drained the oil and water from the engine. The residual would spill out. On a dyno you'd have to disconnect it from the dyno before flipping it upside down, then place it on a engine stand to turn it.

I think it would be more work than just going ahead and removing the intake and valley pan

I've done a bunch of cams swaps on the dyno, I bent up 8 pieces of bailing wire with a hook on one end to pull up the link bar and then wrapped the other end around a rocker stud to hold it in place. I used a BOP belt drive with a remote waterpump which made the front side super easy. I had it down to an hour and half from shutting the engine off to firing back up with a different cam!
