anyone know what the hole with the question mark is for

I think it is the main wiring hole for the fuse box

It's used for the speedo cable on a Camaro, but is plugged on a Firebird.

The hole at angle with your ??? On it is speedo cable. The big round hole has a bolted plate over it on an automatic car, on a stick, it gets a boot with the clutch rod going through it.

my speedo cable came out were it shows it on the photo

4410574 - PLUG, cable dash hole (1'' hole)
