Found a 77TA troof car unmolested but rusty. Garage stored last 30 years. As original as you'll find, original battery cables and shaker drain hose!!. All #s matching drivetrain. Black car/black vinyl guts/sticker on passenger door that Hurst added the troof/date coded snowflakes/4 spd/air cond/amfm

Nice find, but if its 'very rusty' all of the originality doesn't mean a whole lot. If you leave it as is I suppose its a good learning tool, but its not an overly rare car and I am sure there are others out there. If its an SE it will have a bit more value. Then again, Im a glutton and think they should all be saved, especially 77's.

What if I got the car for free?

I would make you an offer to double your money! I didn't mean to come off as bad as it sounded I guess. Like I said, I think they should all be saved. My school of thought is that once the car has been apart, panels replaced car refurbished, originality doesn't make much difference. For the most part I like to see a nicely restored car, just what my tastes are. There are lots of 4 sale adds that read 'original condition- only 1 repaint'. That is not original IMO.

Sounds like a great car!

Starting off with a car that hasn't been screwed with is great, even if it's rusty. Knowing where everything goes, what the original finish was like, and what all the hardware looks like and where it goes is extremely valuable when restoring a car!

Can't go wrong with a black on black 77!

I wasn't being jerky either. What impressed me is how every little detail is original.....the ground straps, the hose clamps every little thing!!

Being complete and original is one thing, take lots of detail pics. Hopefully the condition means much of it is reusable or it doesn't matter too much after getting pics, if you still have to replace and restore everything. Sometimes original details meant the previous owner tried to keep it that way, other times it means they never serviced it! Being parked that long often means much needs rebuilding anyway, or was parked for a reason.

We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there

The rag joint probably softened up some, allowing the shaft to walk/wobble a little.

Looks like it's been off the road since 1987/88 per the NY reg and inspection stickers. Is this a true Y81?

Correct on the date it was parked.
Don't have the PHS yet and I'm not an expert on the Y8X cars.
Being a Hurst conversion, 4 speed with AC makes it a cool car in my mind

Man, I think it looks great! I'd be happy with that as a starting point. Should be killer when done!

Should you decide to part ways with it, I'd be really interested!
