Default Dyno Day Results

Well, the big 428 (actually 434 with a .035" overbore) did pretty well and leveled out at 432 hp at 5000 rpm and 502 lbft torque at 3700 rpm through the regular A-body/2nd Gen F-body RA manifolds with 2.25" outlets. Knowing the long branch factory manifolds (2.5" outlets) makes a few more hp & tq across the rpm range would put the hp to 435 and tq to 505. Dan is very satisfied with the results and called it a day after a dozen pulls. The motor never missed a beat and ended up liking 38-40 degrees total timing and the jetting he started out the day with (I'll have find out what that was). It lost power when they tried richer and leaner mixtures. The motor has 10.75 (+) actual compression and an 068 cam with 1.5 stamped rocker arms. Most runs showed the power peaking at 4800 rpm and hanging on at 490 hp (+) until 5300 rpm before dropping off. 428's are very impressive motors to say the least!

Okay, so first of all I stand super corrected and super impressed! I was 30HP short on my call. What heads are you using? So this would have been a 390 horse motor? I'm sure the bore and careful blueprinting of the motor made somewhat of a difference. But still, this is darn impressive. That big B-body is gonna hustle!

Oops, I see that I said 490 hp(!), I meant to say 430 hp from 4800 to 5300 rpm. The torque curve was super flat as well with 465 lbft.(+) torque from 3000 rpm to 4700 rpm!

Proximity_alrt - the heads are stock unported #16 big valve heads and ,yes, it is the 390 hp HO with the 068 cam being a 4-speed (M-21) 4.11 rear end Cat. The motor is a careful rebuild, but not an NHRA blueprinted effort by any means. It's meant to enjoy on the street, but turn respectable times at the Pure Stock Drags. It is not an "all-out" motor.

What do you plan to do with fuel? 10.75 actual compression and the relatively mild duration 068 cam sounds like 100plus octane needed.

North - Dan ran 110 for the dyno runs and plans to blend fuels for the little time the car will be driven on the street. He has access to 110 just down the road. The Cat's main duty is for the Pure Stock Drags meeting the "advertised" specs for the motor. We're hoping for high 12's at 108 mph thinking it will weigh somewhere around 4000 - 4100 lbs. with driver and full tank of gas.

Here's a few pictures of the post dyno 428HO with its proper long branch manifolds and the body post paint booth.

Default Bodywork Progress Update

Paint has been wet sanded and buffed, the interior painted black around the windows, and trunk spatter painted. Next is the door and quarter guts and glass installation while the front clip gets the treatment.

It's funny - I never cared much for Verdero Green back when these cars were new, but I like it quite a lot today. That thing sure looks nice.

Dan's been busy installing the quarter glass, window mechanisms, taillights and PONTIAC letters on the tail panel.

Got the headliner installed along with the heater box and ducting for the interior along with wiring for the dash, door jamb switches, overhead light, etc. Bumper and license plate light or on today's agenda along with the never ending minor interior and door stuff.

Their assembly room must be well isolated from the body repair and paint areas for the car to stay that clean.
