Canamman, are you thinking about using the radial version of the Wide Oval?

I have understood that when buying relined drums, it's a crap-shoot if you get finned or unfinned.

Maybe I'm mistaken?
Mine were cut.

I wonder what tire casing the radial version is based off of?

Nothing rides like a GT radial but if its a show-n-go the originals or knock offs look the best.

I've Been trying to decide on tires for my 68 GTO. I Really like the look of the goodyear polyglass with the small lettering.
2nd would be wide ovals. However, neither is correct for my car. Orignally mine had white walls. 3rd would be redlines

I have never seen the "wide (60) ovals" before.

While I like the BFG Radial T/A, I have grown very tired of them. Even they have gotten quite expensive.

Yep, Back in the late 90's when I first was looking for vintage tires, I was so happy I could still buy Radial T/A's Thought they looked great & have that classic look (and still do) But, since then, they have absolutely & completely flooded the classic car scene. They are on just about every muscle car on the road (including my own) Just have grown tired of looking at them. Nothing to do with the quality of the tires at all. About a week ago I saw a car with with some widtrack radials on it all the way around. Yes, those were economy tires back in the day, but were cool to see on a car today.

I get it though. Very few options to put on 14-15" wheels

Cool

Well, I couldn't stand it anymore. Using the method outlined here several times, I located the drilling points and fitted the rear spoiler. Fortunately, I already had the correct short end caps from a 1972 Formula I found in a salvage yard 25 years ago. The center spoiler is a $25 Ebay special, which is damage free other than the crappy peeling white paint. The fit is very good. Now to pull them back off to be sanded, and refinished. Another step is to adjust the tension on the rods so the trunk stays up on its own.

I like the spoiler look the best. It will be interesting to see if no spoiler crowd gets their nickers in a knot over it.

Btw nice truck! My dad had a 72 GMC big block truck the same color.

No offense to those that prefer the spoilerless look, but for me personally it does nothing for the appearance of the car. It looks so unfinished without. Not only do they look great, but those spoilers are actually extremely effective.

The truck is my 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 with the original 402/TH400.

You will need one thicker torsion "rod" to get it to stay up.

I couldn't agree more! These cars without a rear spoiler look like door wedges.

That truck looks great!

Good job on install. I will be doing same next week. I made templates for quarters off a parts TA. I have a beater drilled trunk lid, but will make a template from it to drill my nice one. Putting a drill to a good car is nerve wracking, eh? I have a trunk rod to change (only one is thicker than what you / I have). Have to wait on that until I de-vinyl top the car at paint time, next year. Be running a primered spoiler for a little while. I really want to spray paint in orange letters on car "In Progress", but will resist.

I for one am not anti-spoiler, but maybe it could be said that I am more for originality - Once you start modifying an original car, it's really easy to keep that ball rolling...

I used to vastly prefer the spoiler look, but I have come to appreciate the lines of these cars without spoilers;
I also love sleepers.
It seems to me that the spoiler tends to give pretty much any Firebird a bit of a 'Trans Am' vibe, and while the spoiler tends to disrupt the flowing lines to a point, it also kills a bit of the sleeper look.

Let's see if I can explain it another way;
I love the Muira, that car is all about the body lines;
A Formula (or lesser models) with out any spoilers to me exhibits some of those same characteristic flowing lines that I love so much in the Muira - the forward facing scooped hood to me, adds to the aesthetic without disrupting and body lines, but rather complimenting them.

This might seem a stretch for some, but maybe others can see it...

That's a reach. Even that Lambo has an upturned decklid.

sure, but it's more of a lip than a spoiler.
