Is this carb worth rescuing?
There's a QuadraJet in a nearby salvage yard that appears completely unmolested. It's in a '69 Cutlass. Obviously needs a complete rebuild and plating. I have no use for it other than to sell it so it has new life. Should I grab it for $20 or move on?

That's not a 1969 carb, not exactly sure when some of the later features came along but there is features on that carb that is not 1969
So who knows what it is without numbers but its probably a generic rebuilt chain store In other words nothing to get very excited about even if it was in good shape

I agree move on.
That looks to only be good for needles and rods ect - assuming you can get them out. I am not sure when Chevy started using that incarntation of the Quadrajet - because they were using a divorced choke on trucks till at least 1976 - but I'd wager that's a later 1970's part.

What size motor did it come off of originally?
I did not think Olds used the side fuel line type Carbs, but either way if it came on 350 cid motor of any brand and you bolt it on a 389 or bigger cid Pontiac motor it will never meter air and fuel right on the primary side without a good amount recalibration, ask me how I know this!

That's exactly like the original Q-jet on my 1977 Chevy El Camino 350. Side inlet is definitely Chevy. So, I believe it's in the 75-79 range for a Chevrolet. It's actually a very good carb for a Chevy, if you have a Chevy that needs one. By contacting Cliff Ruggles at cliffshighperformance.com , he can provide you with a kit that'll make it work great on the Chevy engine of your choice.

ABSOLUTE JUNK, doesn't even qualify as a rebuildable core.

Side inlets...
- were also on Cadillac Q-jets
- early 4MV Qjets used on Pontiac Sprint 6 engines also used side fuel inlets

Looks like it's been exposed to water, when you go to remove the jets the threads in the casting will come out with the jets, that is if they come out at all.
You could get some small parts that were salvageable, but I'd guess that carb will never sit on top of a running engine again. The castings do not do well when the float bowls get water in them. I agree, probably a chevy carb, 75-79 era. |

following are attributes of a nice late 70's Chevy Qjet application CORE (auto SBC application).
-good original coloring, -non rusted throttle blades & air flaps. -bolts, that the heads are still plated black, -all linkage present & not screwed up, -air horn has been unbolted, checked for straightness, then carefully replaced -bowl area confirmed in good shape. Let's say the above boneyard $20 Qjet is nothing short of a miracle & doesn't have serious damage inside, what's the replacement airflaps, throttle blades, screws, & linkage going to cost to procure for someone who does not have parts carbs ?

Update: Part # is 17056228.
Per www.carburetion.com: "used on 77 BOP 75-77 Chev/GMC/Truck". Thanks for all of your input. It's still in the salvage yard and that's where I expect it will stay.

Hell, for 20 bucks I might have picked it up for parts. Screws, linkage, rods, hanger etc etc.
Seems everyone thinks they got gold plated parts these days......20 bucks is nothing

The code translation doesn't seem right. The 6 indicates a 76. The second 2 is for Chevy. So, I think 76 Chevy is the only correct I.D. for it. The 75-77 Chevy would be applicable, but it's certainly wasn't original equipement for BOP's(unless they had a Chevy in it ) .
