Yeah the manual is not specific to engine setup (ie, 4BBL, tri-power). Still scratching my head.

I've run Pontiac tri-powers on the street and strip since 1964 with my fuel pressure regulated at 6.5 psi and never had a problem. It has been my experience that over 7 psi you can run into issues lifting the needle off of the seat. Follow the information in the service manual, its written by the engineers who designed and built the carb. If you found evidence of bead blasting in the carb, then it was improperly rebuilt. Bead blasting the internal areas of a carb is a no-no.

I have it up and running and Im only running the center carb to break in the engine. I have the regulator set at 3 PSI.
