This is the 1st I've heard of the factory grinding off and restamping the cast #. Mine has not been ground and stamped. Very interesting, but would make it easy to do a knock off forgery job!!!!!

They show that the 071 can be in both 2 & 4 bolt main configuration. I have not pulled the pan to check whether it is 2 or 4 bolt.

.... due to the low production #'s of the RAIV, could it be possible that they ran out of the 506 castings and due to time constraints used an 071 block for this order? I know for a fact that these things did happen occasionally back in the day. This might explain why most sites only show the 506 casting.
I'm coming in late here... just saw the thread. No one ever really addressed this after 2many's attempt. Just for the original poster because I believe all of the other posters know how these were built.

There were NO cast 2506 blocks used in the 69 model year that I know of. They were all 0071's ground and stamped. The only cast 2506 blocks were used on the ram air I's and II's in 68. Another thing I've never seen is a 4 bolt 0071. There may be exceptions to thse rules but I've never seen it.

Greg? Boss?

I have a 4-bolt with 2 bolt caps YZ code matching number judge 0071 block. Not saying it wasn't drilled at some point in it's life but if it was drilled why wouldn't it have 4-bolt caps?
It appears to be factory.

All of the RA III's in 1969 were drilled & tapped for 4 bolt caps, they just didn't get them.

In 1970 they did however.
