I found out a fellow Pure Stock racer was ripped off. Spread the word and be on the lookout for any of this. Details are in the thread below.

That was the first thing I thought when I saw Toronto - it's out on the reservation!
They don't ****ing care and live outside the law. Had a buddy loose his Dodge 3500 dually, 24' enclosed aluminum trailer & 4 sleds + gear 6 years ago up there. If he has any hope of seeing the car again he needs to offer a ransom - a large one, and it might make it's way back to him. Otherwise it will leave there in pieces.

Just saw the news, reward (ransom) was the trick.
Something needs to be done up there - not sure who has jurisdiction, but the thefts are in the 1000's!

From Pete:
Hey guys. Thanks for all the support and to all the folks that posted on so many sites about this horrible news. What a roller coaster ride emotionally and physically. Once I realized the complete rig was taken, I know time was very very precious. The odds of recovery looked very bleak and non existant. Dealing with the cops was very frustrating and time consumming. A good friend suggested a reward right away to get there attention, cause usually the cars are parted out in the first 24 hours. I knew in my heart that they were after the truck and the truck only, but the trailer was a bonus and I'm sure they could hardly wait to see what was behind door #1! My friend went out on the reserve at noon the next day and put out a big reward on the condition that the car came back in the same shape they recieved it. Any damage would result in less money. It took 3 hours for the call(s) to come in. Saturday things were lined up for a Sunday morning deal. Sunday got up a 6am and drove the 2 hours back. We got a hotel room 20 minutes away from where it was going to happen. The next 48 hours you could have made a movie. Came home Sunday night with no car and negotiations started all over again on Monday. Finally @ 6pm the exchange was made off the rez in a church parking lot. Can't give any more details than that right now, but I still can't believe the car is in my shop as it was literally hours away from being parted out. Indians told me the car was "scary fast" and that it was the fastest car they ever drove. You gotta do what you gotta do. There is going to be some changes around here! Thanks again for all your support. Peter

Whew!!!
All's well that ends well, I guess. Hope it wasn't too costly. Hell, we got Manhatten for $24.00!! Seriously...glad to see her back home. That is one special car. Take care. Ron

So he had to pay to get it back and no one was arrested for the crime?
I would be uneasy every second of every day that could happen again, now that they know he will pay a reward. Sounds like the US and the frustrating double standard of rights the Indians have on their res, which is basically like a soverign country. Is it because Law enforcement cant enforce laws the same way the majority have to follow that this bogged down? Glad he got it back and quick acting on his part and others no doubt saved it. Curious how they sell the stolen parts in what sounds like a remote area? On line auction or is there a market they are tapped into there? Jeff |

Maybe I'm greedy, but I'd still demand my truck back once I met up with them. Or they wouldn't go back home in one piece! Body bag maybe, but I'd get it all back.

You are assuming he came alone and without some sort of weapon - he wouldn't have. He also has the luxury of knowing that no matter what he does to you, as long as he gets back onto tribal land, he's home free.

Who says I'd show up alone or not armed? Believe me, I'd have plenty of help and ammo! |
